SKINCARE and ESTHETICIAN FAQ

What kind of facial do I need?

For your first facial, it is a good idea to select the Ultimate Experience Facial, as this is the 60 minute classic customizable treatment designed to fit your skin care needs. We will completely customize your facial to your skin’s unique needs at the time of service. Just let Krista your esthetician know during your consultation what your concerns are, and she will pick the correct treatment for you!

Will my skin look red or break out after a facial?

No. Depending on the sensitivity of your skin, you may see a bit more pink, due to circulation in the skin, but this is normal, and good for new skin growth, hydration, infusion of serums and overall skin health.

Will I have peeling after a facial?

It depends. If it has been months since your last skin care treatment, or you never exfoliate at home, the skin is stimulated to turn over dead skin cells during a professional treatment, so you may see some flaking or dryness as new skin cells are generated. This can be a completely normal side effect of a facial given to you by your esthetician, depending on your current routine at home. If this concerns you, the IMAGE hydrating enzyme mask would be the perfect at home treatment 3-4 days after your facial to help with any flaking/dryness.

Do I want a peel or a facial?

IMAGE clinical couture peels are completely customizable to your skin. The IMAGE signature facelift is great for all skin types, sensitive, dry, rosacea prone, and a great starter to the acne, wrinkle, lightening lifts. You can add a lift (peel) to your facial, just book SPA peel for your appointment. Please contact Krista with more questions.

Can i wear makeup after a facial?

Yes, but you won’t want to! Stick with mineral based makeup, and make sure your brushes are recently washed and clean of bacteria.

How often should I have a facial?

Because the life cycle of a skin cell is 4-6 weeks, ideally, a treatment is recommended every month. Realistically for some, every season change is key, so you can adjust your skin care home products as your skin changes with the weather.

What is your cancellation policy?

Please move or change your skin care appointment at least 24 hours in advance. Appointments that are no showed will be charged the full price to the credit card held on file, 50% of the service price will be charged for late cancellations.

How do I continue to glow at home?

All our skin care products are available for home use and can be purchased after the service. Your facial esthetician Krista will recommend what products would give you the best results for your skin for your home care routine.

What is your product philosophy?

IMAGE and Rhonda Allison skin care products contain pure essential oils with ingredients derived from natural sources and are free of parabens, sodium lauryl sulfates and artificial colors. Packaging is recyclable and printed with soy-based ink. Beauty is far more than cosmetic – your esthetician is concerned with your healthy skin, a healthy body and a healthy environment.

What is your return policy?

Unopened skin care product can be exchanged or returned to your esthetician for credit within 30 days of purchase.

Waxing FAQ

DO YOU USE HARD WAX OR SOFT WAX?

KLOE uses Nufree. Nufree acts like a soft wax, the hair is removed with paper strips, but it is a non-wax soy-based liquid hair remover system. Nufree is the gold standard in hair removal and is carried by thousands of facial estheticians and skin care providers throughout the world. It was developed over 25 years ago to help plastic surgeons remove hair from a patient before surgery. Here are just a few of the reasons why Nufree is the most effective hair removal treatment in the world.

  • Nufree is NOT A WAX and never sticks to the skin.
  • Nufree is self-preserving antibacterial/antimicrobial so it’s safe, clean and germ free.
  • Nufree is completely BOTANICAL and safe for the entire body.
  • Nufree doesn’t dry and can be erased any time! Nufree is scientifically tested and uses no animal products.

I’M LOOKING FOR A SANITARY SALON, DO YOU DOUBLE DIP?

We absolutely DO NOT double dip! KLOE prides itself in clean, sanitary state-certified conditions never reusing strips or sticks in order to ensure that each client stays clean and protected. The treatment room is sanitized between each client and I wear gloves to protect the client.

CAN I BRING A FRIEND IN THE ROOM WITH ME FOR SUPPORT WHILE I’M BEING WAXED?

At KLOE, you are in the best possible hands! My insurance policy states no one except the person receiving the service is allowed in the waxing room.

WHAT IS THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN A BIKINI, TAILORED BIKINI, AND A BRAZILIAN?

The bikini wax cleans up the underwear line and to about 2 inches out. The tailored bikini is a bikini wax that tucks it in a little bit more, is swimsuit friendly, and you can take it down off the top as much as you prefer. The brazilian is everything front, underneath and back, or you may leave a triangle or landing strip. An esthetician's advice? If you’re gonna do it, wax it all!

WHAT SHOULD I DO TO PREPARE FOR A WAXING APPOINTMENT?

Out of consideration to your wax technician, please come freshly showered. If you are used to shaving, make sure your hair is at least 1/4 an inch long, which is usually about 14 days of growth.

SHOULD I TRIM BEFORE I COME IN?

No! More often than not, people trim too much. If your hair is too short, the wax won’t adhere very well and some hair may be left behind. Leave the trimming to me!

HOW OFTEN SHOULD I GET WAXED, AND HOW LONG WILL IT LAST?

You will have very little to no hair growth for the first 7-14 days. After that, it starts growing back finer and softer. For most people, the ideal time frame is to wax every 4 weeks.

IS IT TRUE THE MORE CONSISTENT I AM WITH WAXING THE LIGHTER THE HAIR RE-GROWTH IS?

From an esthetician's experience, this is true, especially when you are maintaining a regular four-week waxing schedule. Over time hair follicles are repeatedly damaged from being removed and growth slows down. However, once you stop waxing on a regular basis, the follicles adapt again and you will revert back to your pre-waxing growth cycle.

WHAT SHOULD I DO FOR POST WAX CARE?

Keep the skin clean for 48 hours. Use your Finipil lotion twice/day on damp skin to cool skin and protect the pores. Shower immediately after workouts; no tanning, hot tubs, hot yoga, etc to prevent bumps from bacteria getting in the open pores. After 48-72 hours, exfoliate, exfoliate, exfoliate! Gentle, but mild exfoliation works the best. I carry a line of affordable skincare products to help keep those pesky ingrown hairs away.

I AM PREGNANT, CAN I STILL WAX?

Please double check with your physician, but your esthetician recommends keeping to your normal 4-6 week waxing routine to keep the wax as painless as possible. We will check in with your skin to make sure that hormonal changes aren’t making your skin a contraindication for waxing. We will also talk about different types of exfoliating that are approved for pregnant women. You may also need to switch to pregnancy safe skin care products, which Krista will help you with.

I AM USING ACNE MEDICATIONS, CAN I STILL WAX?

Please double check with your physician and confirm with your facial esthetician, but I recommend NO FACIAL WAXING while using topical medications from your dermatologist including, but not limited to Retin-A, Differin, Epiduo, and some antibiotics. I recommend discontinuing use for 14 days to prevent sensitivities, but keep in mind that long term use sensitizes the skin, making waxing more harsh on the affected area. ABSOLUTELY NO WAXING anywhere on the body while taking the drug Accutane. You must discontinue taking Accutane for at least 6-8 months to ensure that waxing will not harm the skin. KLOE can provide you with skin care products that can help with acne and breakouts possibly ending the need for harsh medical prescriptions.

WHAT IS YOUR CANCELLATION POLICY?

Please move or change your appointment at least 24 hours in advance. Appointments that are no showed will be charged the full price to the credit card held on file, 50% of the service price will be charged for late cancellations.

WHAT IF I STILL HAVE QUESTIONS?

If you have additional concerns about waxing or skin care, even after the appointment, please do not hesitate contact your esthetician, Krista.

CIT pen COLLAGEN INDUCTION THERAPY

KLOE is an esthetician who uses Rhonda Allison and IMAGE skincare products to help improve skin care and slow sun damage and aging skin.

What skin conditions does the CIT Pen Treat?

  • Scarring- surgical, thermal, and acne (scars must be at least 6 months old)
  • Stretch marks
  • Cellulite
  • Enlarged pores
  • Dyspigmentation (due to sun damage and/ or hormonal imbalances e.g. Melasma)
  • Fine lines and wrinkles
  • Loose skin
  • Dehydrated skin

CIT Achievements

  • Increased smoothness and hydration
  • Thicker and firmer skin
  • Increased nutrients, overall healthier condition of the treats skin
  • Better microcirculation in the treated skin

How is the treatment administered?

A licensed skin care professional glides the CIT pen over professional strength HSS Enhancement Serum or sterile saline in a cross link or circular pattern over the skin to puncture the epidermal layers of the skin and create microscopic subcutaneous injuries. These microscopic channels in the skin allow for optimal product absorption. The microscopic injuries created with the CIT Pen stimulate a repair response & new collagen production with minimal to no downtime for your patient.

How does the CIT pen work on a cellular level?

As the CIT pen creates micro-channels into the skin, pores are temporarily opened allowing the enhancement serum to be fully penetrated. Micro-point punctures in the skin are created. This is a controlled injury to the skin and is perceived by the body as damage. This stimulates the release of growth factors that trigger the production of Collagen and Elastin. Skin reacts to this CIT treatment by initiating the healing process which encourages your patients’ skin to continue to regenerate.

What internal supplements are recommended with CIT treatments?

  • Glucosamine, not only does it provide healthy joint support but speeds healing. The first few days of trauma enhance HA production in the wound which allows for fewer complications related to scarring.
  • Liposomal Vitamin C - The liposome delivery system has hydrophilic and hydrophobic portions, providing a fat and water portion, which allows vitamin C to be absorbed through the fat and water soluble pathways for optimal absorption in the body.Liposomal C is an antioxidant that protects the body against oxidative stress. C is found in high concentrations in immune cells and also plays an important role in aiding several collagen synthesis reactions.
  • Biotin- When using CIT to stimulate hair regrowth, internal support from the essential water-soluble B vitamin, Biotin, is recommended. Studies have also linked Biotin to healthy skin, nails, intestinal flora, as well as regulating low blood sugar levels and the nervous system.

When should I expect to see results?

With our automated CIT Pen micro-needling treatments, the skin is tricked into repairing itself. The process of micro-needling skin remodeling can continue to enhance for months after treatment as the skin continues to repair itself. Results can be seen within a few days to a week. Skin naturally heals itself every 45 days so by simply adding micro-needling stimulation the changes can be accelerated and your client will see results. Depending on the patients’ expectations and personal goals we recommend a series of CIT Pen sessions to speed up the process and achieve optimum results. However; skin improvement is noticeable after just one treatment!

KLOE is an esthetician who uses Rhonda Allison and IMAGE skincare products to help improve skin care and slow sun damage and aging skin.

What should I expect after a CIT treatment?

Immediately following treatment, your clients’ skin will have some redness and flushed in appearance like a moderate sunburn. The patient will also experience skin tightness and mild sensitivity to the treated area as well as some peeling (depending on the depth). At 24 hours and up to 36 hours, after treatment, little to no evidence of injury to the treated area is visible, however tightness and peeling can occur.

Can the CIT pen be used on my skin type?

  • Skin needling can be safely performed on all skin colors and types. There is no risk of post-inflammatory hyper-pigmentation as the melanocytes remain intact (as long as post-care instructions are followed).
  • Other invasive procedures such as laser resurfacing are not recommended for Asian or African American skin due to the potential risks of delayed wound healing, pigment changes, and scarring. However, with Collagen Induction Therapy/ Micro-needling, the potential risks on ethnic skin are unlikely due to the epidermis remaining intact.

Can CIT help my rosacea?

Mild Rosacea, can be improved. When the Spinosum layer is strengthened through CIT the collagen stimulated will support the dermal papillae, which will reduce the appearance of broken capillaries.

How many treatments will I need?

The number of CIT treatments depends on your current skin condition and goals. Three to four treatments may be needed for moderate acne scars. Scars from thermal burns and stretch marks may require between 6-10 CIT sessions. The added Collagen lasts up to 12 months and a refresher treatment is recommended every 6 months to 1 year in order to fight the signs of ageing. You should be advised that multiple sessions may be needed to reach your desired results in order to meet your expectations.

Is CIT/microneedling painful?

The variety of needle cartridges along with the CIT Pen’s ability to gage the needle depth allows this treatment to be customized to fit each of your clients’ needs and comfort levels. Application of local anesthetic numbing cream can prevent treatment discomfort.

What's the difference between your service and a service provided under a medical director?

  • Results are seen at the cosmetic depth of 0.25mm.
  • Cosmetic micro-needling is considered to work only in the granular & mid spinosum layers. Working on a cosmetic depth (0.3 and below) releases growth factors by stimulating Keratinocyte cells.
  • Clinical studies have shown that regardless of the depth of injury to the skin, new collagen forms no deeper than 0.6mm. Working above 0.5mm is considered a medical treatment. Micro-Needling at “medical depths” has shown to be dramatically effective for scar removal, cellulite reduction, stretch marks, hyper-pigmentation and reduction of fine lines and wrinkles.

KLOE is an esthetician who uses Rhonda Allison and IMAGE skincare products to help improve skin care and slow sun damage and aging skin.

What should I use post-treatment?

The professional strength CIT Enhancement Serum will be needled into the skin, and used post treatment care. It is recommended for continual daily use to reduce the appearance of hyper-pigmentation, scaring, fine lines, Rosacea and enlarged pore size. Continuation of daily usage of the CIT Serum will benefit in boosting and extending the effects of CIT. It also adds much needed hydration to treated and or aging skin which provides a more supple and youthful glow.

Are there any side effects to CIT/microneedling?

  • This treatment typically recovers at a rapid rate & redness subsides within 24 hours. Erythema & heat is caused by vasodilation due to the release of histamine.
  • Negative side effects should not take place if you are following proper protocol.
  • Swelling during the recovery phase can occur
  • skin infection with bacteria (rare) or herpes simplex virus (cold sores), Milia, which can be easily removed and mild acne flare ups may occur after the treatment.
  • If any of these symptoms persist and/or worsen please seek immediate medical attention.
  • As the microscopic channels to the skin close quickly, postoperative wound infection is extremely rare.
  • Emollients and/ or topical antibiotics may be prescribed, if considered necessary.

CIT Pen treatments must be avoided in the following cases

  • Keloid or raised scarring.
  • Pregnancy due to the lack of clinical studies.
  • Herpes Simplex infections.
  • Diabetes. (in some cases, if managed by diet and medication, treatment may proceed)
  • Any facial injections within the past 10 days.
  • Patients on any blood thinners.
  • Collagen vascular diseases or cardiac abnormalities.
  • Active bacterial or fungal infection.
  • Immune-suppression diseases.
  • Scars less than 6 months old.
  • Raised moles, warts or raised lesions.
  • Nodular or Pustular Rosacea
  • Eczema, Psoriasis, Scleroderma and other chronic conditions.
  • Treatment cannot be performed if the following is present: Any open cuts, wounds, abrasions, and active acne or cold sores.

  • If skin becomes painful, swollen, red or inflamed, please notify your skin care professional, as this may represent an infection or allergic reaction that may require treatment.

DERMAPLANING

KLOE is an esthetician who uses Rhonda Allison and IMAGE skincare products to help improve skin care and slow sun damage and aging skin.

What is Dermaplaning?

Dermaplaning is a physical/mechanical form of exfoliation using a specialized dermaplaning blade by your facial esthetician for the removal of built up dead skin cells and vellus hair. This treatment involves the use of the sterile, surgical blade to remove dead skin cells and vellus hair. As with the use of any sharp instrument, there is the possibility of nicks or cuts. Following the treatment, skin will be smoother, softer and better able to absorb the active ingredients in treatment and home skin care products.

Benefits of Dermaplaning

This treatment helps anyone concerned about dry, dull skin, sallow complexion, enlarged pores, fine lines, hyperpigmentation, or acne scars. It is also beneficial to remove facial hair for those that are contraindicated for facial waxing.

Worried about removing facial hair?

“But won’t my hair grow back thicker?”  The answer is NO. There are two types of hair on the human body, terminal and vellus hair. Terminal hairs are the thick pigmented hairs that grow by the influence of hormones (legs, armpits, scalp, pubic area, etc). Vellus hairs are fine translucent hairs usually found on a woman’s face, back or chest. Unlike terminal hairs, when vellus hairs are cut they grow back with the same thickness and length as before, only with a blunt tip and are expected to return in approximately two to four weeks post procedure. Removal of the vellus hair has more than just an aesthetic benefit. Excessive “face fuzz” can trap oil and dirt which can lead to other skin problems. Best of all, the removal of the vellus hair and dead skin cells allows for the proper penetration of other skin care products, increasing their efficacy and ultimately their results.

Is Dermaplaning right for you?

Yes! Virtually every skin type (both men and women) can benefit from this skin care procedure. There are contraindications to this treatment, including but not limited to:

  • Diabetes (not controlled by diet or medication)
  • Cancer
  • Active acne (we can go around active acne, depending on the size and area)
  • Bleeding disorders
  • Blood clotting disorders
  • Development of keloids following injury
  • Certain medications including blood thinners, higher doses of Aspirin, and Accutane are contraindicated for this treatment due to the possibility of delayed clotting from a nick or cut.
  • Nickel allergy

How often can you receive this treatment?

Dermaplaning removes 2-3 weeks of dead skin cells, so in order for your skin to complete it’s normal skin cycle (approximately 28 days), the treatments can be done every 4 weeks.

Are there risks?

All things considered, Dermaplaning is very safe. Of course bleeding is possible, the treatment involves the use of a sharp surgical blade (and haven’t you ever cut yourself shaving before?). As with your own shaving experiences in the shower, cuts are extremely rare and more annoying than painful. You should note that your skin may feel a little sensitive after a session, so the proper precautions should be taken to avoid any discomforts. Makeup may be applied after Dermaplaning, in fact you may note that your makeup glides on and sits much better on your face after a session than before.

DERMAPLANING POST TREATMENT INSTRUCTIONS

Congratulations On Your Dermaplaning Treatment!

Dermaplaning is an excellent anti-aging treatment that provides immediate and cumulative results with each service you receive.

Dermaplaning is a physical exfoliation that has removed dead skin cells and vellus hair from the surface of your skin. Your face should feel softer than ever and look brighter and more youthful.

Be sure to take care of your skin following dermaplaning or other anti-aging treatments. Following these instructions will maintain your results longer, and help you avoid complications.

Cleanse: Use a gentle cleanser and warm, NOT hot, water. Splash water on face. Do not use abrasive washcloths, Clarisonic, or hot shower spray for the first 24-48 hours. Do not use cleansers, serums or spot treatments containing salicylic acid or Benzoyl Peroxide (BPO) for 5 days following treatment.

Tone: Hydrating and brightening toners will penetrate deeper. If you are sensitive, try all products on a small area before applying full face.

Serums: Active ingredients in serums penetrate much better now, so you’ll see quicker results. Ask your esthetician about the right serums for your skin. Please do not use Retin-A, 5 days pre and post dermaplaning. For darker skin tones: use the IMAGE skincare ILUMA brightening serum to reduce the risk of PIH (post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation)

Moisturizer: Choose a hydrating moisturizer and apply twice daily. It’s common for skin to feel tight but is dewy to the touch. This is good and will only last a short time. For darker skin tones: use a 1% hydrocortisone cream for 5 days following treatment to calm inflammation and reduce the risk of PIH. The IMAGE post recovery balm contains beeswax and organic botanical ingredients to restore the skin's barrier after the treatment. This a perfect barrier cream for dry or sensitive skin types.

SPF: Your skin is more vulnerable to UV rays after exfoliation. SPF is essential to protect your skin- even on cloudy days UVA(aging) rays are present. The IMAGE prevention + SPF 50 is perfect to hydrate and protect your skin after a treatment.

Makeup: Makeup can irritate skin after dermaplaning. Bacteria, alcohols, colorants, and fragrance are all irritants that can cause contact dermatitis. Be sure to clean your makeup brushes and apply clean (new) mineral makeup to minimize risks. The IMAGE iconceal foundation is perfect after this treatment with amazing coverage; it’s oxygenating and contains SPF 30 for additional coverage.

DO: avoid sun exposure as much as possible. If you must be in the sun, apply and reapply SPF every 2 hours, wear a hat and seek shade.

DO: Delay exposure to excessive heat, heavy workouts, steam rooms, and saunas for 24-48 hours post treatment.

DO: Wait 7 days before facial waxing. Waxing maybe be done prior to dermaplaning.

DO: Schedule your next appointment for 4 weeks at KLOE to optimize results.

DO: Enjoy your new look!
